STENEO Project Explores Energy-Positive District in Ostrava-Přívoz
On November 20, 2025, the STENEO project team held a working meeting with the participation of representatives of the ÚVAFM of the University of Ostrava, Assoc. Prof. Jiří Kupka, RNDr., Ph.D., RNDr. Martina Daňková, Ph.D., and Assoc. Prof. Jan Šustek, RNDr., Ph.D.; representatives of the Faculty of Science, Mgr. Vojtěch Bosák, Ph.D., and Mgr. Lenka Paszová; Vojtěch Lekeš, MSc., from the architectural studio NEXT; and other members of the project team. The main topic was the preparation of background materials for the pilot site in Ostrava-Přívoz, which has the potential to become an energy-positive district (PED). An energy-positive district is understood as an area which, thanks to the use of renewable energy sources, modern technologies, and efficient energy management, is capable of producing more energy than it consumes.
The participants discussed the technical and regulatory requirements for establishing a PED in the pilot location and also addressed the planning of further steps, particularly in the area of collecting relevant data.
The STENEO project (Social Dimension of New Technologies in Energy in the Ostrava Metropolitan Area – CZ.02.01.01/00/23_021/0008591) aims to strengthen regional resilience and support the energy transition. Researchers are mapping areas with high energy poverty and coal dependence to propose solutions that benefit the most vulnerable communities.
