Fuzzy Set Theory and Applications 2026 Conference (Liptovský Ján, Slovakia)
The 18th International Conference on Fuzzy Set Theory and Applications (FSTA 2026) took place from January 25–30, 2026, in the spa village of Liptovský Ján, Slovakia. FSTA 2026 is an international scientific meeting focused on fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic and their applications across a broad range of fields—from mathematical foundations (logical connectives, orderings, relations, fuzzy measures, and Choquet/Sugeno-type fuzzy integrals) to uncertainty modeling in data, decision-making, and modern computational methods. The program included invited plenary lectures by leading experts and parallel technical sessions featuring contributions on topics such as information aggregation, linguistic summarization, fuzzy transforms, fuzzy–probabilistic reasoning systems, and machine learning methods dealing with uncertainty.
The conference was co-organized by the Institute for Research and Applications of Fuzzy Modeling at the University of Ostrava. Other organizing institutions included SPIKES s.r.o., the Department of Mathematics and Descriptive Geometry of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, and the Armed Forces Academy of General Milan Rastislav Štefánik in Liptovský Mikuláš.
The organization and successful course of the conference were significantly supported by Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Martin Štěpnička, Ph.D., as one of the General Chairs of the conference, and Prof. Ing. Vilém Novák, DrSc., as one of the Chairs of the Program Committee. Among the extensive contributions of the Institute for Research and Applications of Fuzzy Modeling to the organization and scientific content of the conference, the invited talk by Ing. Jiří Vomlel, Ph.D., entitled “Fuzzy Transforms Meet Bayesian Networks in Sociological Data Analysis”, can be considered particularly significant. Members of the IRAFM also contributed to more than 25 scientific presentations. Special mention should be made of the presentation by Mgr. Karel Fiala, who received the “Best Student Paper at FSTA 2026” award.
In addition to scientific presentations, the conference provided space for panel discussions and informal meetings, during which institute members were able to consult on the current progress of the project, share methodological experience, and discuss possible directions for future research with colleagues from international institutions.
