Prof. Perfilieva received the prestigious project Horizon Europe in cooperation with foreign colleagues
The Institute for Research and Applications of Fuzzy Modeling (IRAFM) at the University of Ostrava has achieved a significant international success by obtaining a prestigious project under the Horizon Europe programme for the period 2026–2030. This is the first project of this type in the institute′s history.
The project entitled Hypercomplex Explainable AI: Mathematical Foundations for Trustworthy Models (HyperXAI) will be carried out within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Staff Exchanges (HORIZON-TMA-MSCA-SE) call and focuses on the development of mathematical foundations for explainable and trustworthy artificial intelligence. The research primarily concentrates on the design of neural networks whose computations are based on hypercomplex calculus and whose architecture is formed using fuzzy modeling methods.
The project is the result of long-term cooperation between IRAFM at the University of Ostrava and the Krakow University of Technology, which began in 2022 within the project “Strategic Partnership for Mathematical Aspects of Complex, Hypercomplex, and Fuzzy Neural Networks.”
The project guarantor on behalf of the University of Ostrava is prof. Irina Perfiljeva, CSc., dr. h.c., Prof. h.c. The project will be implemented within a large international consortium coordinated by the Krakow University of Technology (Poland). Other partners include universities and research institutions from Spain, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iraq, and South Korea. This collaboration connects leading institutions in the fields of mathematics, computer science, and artificial intelligence across Europe and beyond.
The HyperXAI project represents a significant step toward the development of artificial intelligence methods that will be not only technologically advanced but also transparent, explainable, and trustworthy, and it will contribute to strengthening the international standing of the University of Ostrava in both basic and applied research.
