Artificial Intelligence, Nature and Urban Life in Ostrava: IRAFM at Evening with REFRESH
How is the relationship between Ostrava residents and nature connected with urban living, and what can artificial intelligence reveal about their attitudes? These questions will be addressed at the next Evening with REFRESH, taking place on 14 October 2026 at 17:30 at OUshop, Mlýnská 5, Ostrava.
The interdisciplinary discussion will also feature Petr Sosík from the Institute for Research and Applications of Fuzzy Modeling (IRAFM), University of Ostrava, who is involved in knowledge and data processing within the REFRESH project. He will present how artificial intelligence can be used to analyse approximately one thousand questionnaires completed by Ostrava households, as well as the limitations of AI-based interpretation. Through this expertise, IRAFM contributes to REFRESH in the fields of artificial intelligence and advanced data processing.
Other perspectives will be provided by social geographer Daniel Kaplan and urban historian Andrea Pokludová. The discussion will connect current attitudes of Ostrava residents with the historical development of the city and explore the relationship between housing, access to nature and decisions about moving.
The event is financially supported by the European Union within REFRESH – Research Excellence For REgion Sustainability and High-tech Industries, project No. CZ.10.03.01/00/22_003/0000048, through the Just Transition Programme.
